Got a hankering for lobster? There’s an app for that.
Yup, if you own an Apple iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, your hunger for lobster can be sated by the folks at Dorr Lobster Co. in Milbridge, Maine. The family operation has gone high tech in an effort to carve out a niche in the highly competitive lobster industry.
To get your mitts on some lobster claws, you must first go to the Dorr web site to download the free app offered by MobiLaurus. Once you do, you can use it to order from a menu that includes items such as a lobster dinner for two or Maine scallops.
With a few finger taps on the customer’s screen, the order is placed, and customers get a confirmation number and a tracking number. Dorr says it can ship orders using Styrofoam coolers and frozen gel packs anywhere in the United States within 24 hours.
I imagine the lobster app is just the tip of the seafood iceberg, and that similar apps will be developed (if they haven’t been already) to allow U.S. fishermen to connect directly with customers and become more prosperous.
Hmmm. You have to like the idea of a more prosperous and thriving U.S. fishing industry. Is there an app for that?

You are correct when you say apps may already have been developed. In fact there is one called iLobster that lets you find lobster nearby, as opposed to ordering from one place. Just go to iTunes and search for iLobster, its worth it.

Hi Linc,
iLobster has actually already been released for the past 6 months as an iPhone/iPod Touch iPad app. Just not to confuse anybody, iLobster is a completely different app. If you're interested in checking it out, go to http://www.ilobsterapp.com
